Section 3 — Daily Care & Routine

1. What does a typical day look like?

Each day at Jasmine's Kingdom Daycare follows a consistent routine that helps children feel secure while providing opportunities to learn, play, and grow.

  • Individual and group activities

Our schedule is flexible enough to meet each child's developmental needs while maintaining a comfortable daily routine.

    Outdoor activities help children:

  • Develop motor skills

Outdoor time may be adjusted during extreme weather conditions to ensure every child's safety and comfort.

3. Do children take naps?

Children who normally nap are provided with a quiet, comfortable space to rest during the day.

Rest schedules are adjusted according to each child's age and individual needs whenever possible.

4. What if my child doesn't nap?

Not every child sleeps during rest time—and that's perfectly okay.

Children who remain awake will be encouraged to participate in quiet activities such as:

  • Reading books
  • Coloring
  • Puzzles
  • Quiet educational games
  • Independent play

We strive to maintain a calm environment that allows resting children to sleep while providing appropriate activities for children who remain awake.

5. Are educational activities included?

    Absolutely.

Learning happens throughout the day through age-appropriate, hands-on activities designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

    Activities may include:
    Outdoor activities help children:

  • Letters and numbers
  • Colors and shapes
  • Fine motor development

  • Arts and crafts
  • Science exploration
  • Problem-solving
  • Social interaction

Children learn best through play, exploration, and positive experiences.

6. Will my child have free play?

    Yes.

Free play is an important part of healthy childhood development.

    It allows children to:

  • Explore their interests
  • Build creativity
  • Practice independence
  • Develop friendships
  • Improve communication skills
  • Strengthen problem-solving abilities

A healthy balance of structured activities and free play helps children develop naturally.

7. How much screen time is allowed?

  • Our focus is on active learning, creativity, exploration, and social interaction rather than screen time.

Electronic devices are kept to an absolute minimum and are used only when appropriate for educational purposes or special activities.

Children spend most of their day interacting with people, toys, books, and hands-on learning experiences.

8. How do you encourage good behavior?

We believe children learn best through kindness, patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement.

    We encourage positive behavior by:

  • Praising good choices
  • Setting clear expectations
  • Teaching respect and kindness
  • Helping children solve problems
  • Encouraging cooperation
  • Redirecting inappropriate behavior when necessary

Our goal is to help children develop confidence, empathy, responsibility, and self-control.

9. How are conflicts between children handled?

Learning to work through disagreements is an important part of childhood.

When conflicts occur, we calmly guide children toward age-appropriate solutions by encouraging:

  • Listening
  • Sharing
  • Taking turns
  • Using kind words
  • Respecting others
  • Understanding feelings

Whenever appropriate, conflicts become valuable learning opportunities rather than punishments.

10. Will my child make friends?

Most children quickly become comfortable and begin building friendships through daily play and shared activities.

Our welcoming environment encourages children to:

  • Play together
  • Learn cooperation
  • Build communication skills
  • Celebrate differences
  • Develop lasting friendships

Every child is welcomed, respected, and encouraged to participate at their own pace.

11. Do children celebrate birthdays?

  • Yes.

Birthdays are wonderful opportunities to help children feel special.

Families are welcome to discuss simple birthday celebrations in advance.

If parents choose to provide birthday treats, we ask that all food follows our Nutrition Policy and considers any allergies or dietary restrictions of other enrolled children.

12. Can my child bring a favorite toy?

  • A comfort item or favorite toy may be appropriate during the adjustment period or for designated times.

However, because personal belongings can occasionally become lost, damaged, or create disagreements among children, we encourage families to bring only items approved in advance.

We appreciate your understanding and will happily discuss what is appropriate for your child's age and situation.

13. Do you celebrate holidays?

  • Families often want to know if you'll recognize holidays, seasonal events, or cultural celebrations. A short explanation of your approach can set expectations and show inclusivity.

14. How do you help children adjust during their first few days?

  • Parents are often anxious about separation. Explaining that you work closely with families, allow children time to settle in, and provide reassurance can build confidence before enrollment.

15. What should I expect on my child's first day?

  • This is a practical question almost every parent has. You can outline what to bring, how drop-off works, and reassure them that you'll help their child feel comfortable and welcomed.

I recommend adding these three to Section 3. They fit naturally with daily routines, address common concerns, and further distinguish Jasmine's Kingdom Daycare as thoughtful and parent-focused.

Section 4 — Meals & Nutrition

1. Do I pack my child's lunch?

  • Yes.

Parents are encouraged to provide their child's meals and snacks each day. This helps ensure that children receive foods they enjoy while accommodating any dietary preferences, allergies, cultural traditions, or medical needs.

Please pack enough food for your child's scheduled time at daycare and label all containers with your child's name.

2. What foods should I send?

We encourage parents to pack healthy, nutritious meals and snacks that support their child's growth and development.

    Good choices include:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Sandwiches or wraps
  • Yogurt
  • Cheese
  • Crackers
  • Whole-grain foods
  • Pasta, rice, or similar meals
  • Healthy snacks appropriate for your child's age

Whenever possible, we encourage limiting foods and beverages high in added sugar.

3. Are nuts allowed?

  • Because food allergies can be serious, Jasmine's Kingdom Daycare may limit or prohibit peanuts, tree nuts, or other allergens if a child enrolled in our program has a documented allergy.

Families will be notified whenever restrictions are necessary to help maintain a safe environment for everyone.

4. What about allergies?

Your child's safety is our highest priority.

    Please notify us of any:

  • Food allergies

    Absolutely.

Fresh drinking water is always available throughout the day.

Parents should also provide any beverages their child regularly drinks, such as:

Please clearly label all bottles, cups, and containers with your child's name.

6. Can bottles be warmed?

  • Yes.

Infant bottles may be warmed using safe food-handling practices. Bottles will never be heated in a manner that could create hot spots or pose a safety risk.

Parents should clearly label each bottle with their child's name and provide any special feeding instructions if needed.

7. Can food be heated?

  • Yes.

If appropriate, parent-provided meals may be warmed before serving.

Please pack meals in microwave-safe containers whenever possible and label all containers with your child's name.

8. Can I send homemade food?

  • Absolutely.

Parents are welcome to provide homemade meals as well as commercially prepared foods.

Please ensure that all food is safely prepared, properly stored before arriving at daycare, and packed in suitable containers to help maintain freshness.

9. Can I send birthday treats?

  • Yes.

Families are welcome to celebrate birthdays by providing individually packaged or easy-to-serve treats.

To help protect children with food allergies or dietary restrictions, we ask that parents discuss birthday treats with us in advance so we can determine whether any restrictions apply.

Whenever possible, we encourage healthier celebration options in addition to traditional treats.

10. What if my child is a picky eater?

  • Many young children go through stages of selective eating, and that's perfectly normal.

Our goal is to create a relaxed, positive mealtime environment where children are encouraged—but never forced—to try the foods provided by their families.

Because parents provide meals and snacks, children are more likely to have familiar foods they enjoy eating.

If you have concerns about your child's eating habits, we're always happy to discuss strategies that encourage healthy eating while respecting your family's preferences.

11. Should I label my child's lunch and containers?

  • Yes.

Please clearly label all lunch boxes, bottles, cups, food containers, and reusable utensils with your child's name to help prevent mix-ups.

12. How should I pack foods that need to stay cold?

  • Please use insulated lunch bags with ice packs whenever foods require refrigeration. This helps keep meals fresh and safe until mealtime.

13. Can my child bring candy or soda?

  • To encourage healthy eating habits, we ask families to avoid sending candy, energy drinks, and soft drinks as part of a child's daily meals or snacks.

14. What if my child forgets their lunch?

  • If a lunch or snack is accidentally forgotten, please contact us as soon as possible. We'll work with the family to determine the best solution for that day.

15. Do children eat together?

  • Yes.

Whenever appropriate for their ages, children enjoy meals and snacks together in a supervised, relaxed setting. Shared mealtimes help children develop social skills, practice good manners, and build healthy eating habits.

Section 5 — Health & Safety

1. How do you keep the daycare clean?

  • Maintaining a clean, healthy environment is one of our highest priorities.

The daycare is cleaned and organized throughout the day, with additional cleaning performed as needed. High-touch surfaces, toys, tables, and commonly used areas are cleaned and sanitized regularly to help reduce the spread of germs.

We believe a clean environment helps children stay healthier while providing families with greater peace of mind.

2. What happens if my child gets sick?

If your child becomes ill while attending daycare, we'll make them as comfortable as possible while minimizing contact with other children whenever appropriate.

A parent or authorized emergency contact will be notified if your child develops symptoms that require early pickup, such as:

  • Fever

The safety and well-being of every child is always our highest priority.

4. Do you administer medication?

Medication may only be administered in accordance with our Medication Policy and applicable New York State regulations.

Medication will never be administered without the required documentation.

Please refer to our Medication Policy for complete details.

5. What happens during severe weather?

  • The safety of children always comes first.

In the event of severe weather, appropriate precautions will be taken based on the specific situation. Children will remain indoors or move to a designated safe area until conditions improve.

Parents will be notified whenever weather conditions affect daycare operations, delayed openings, or early closures.

6. How are emergencies handled?

Jasmine's Kingdom Daycare maintains emergency procedures designed to respond quickly and calmly in unexpected situations.

    Emergency procedures include planning for:

  • Medical emergencies
  • Fire
  • Severe weather

  • Building evacuations
  • Other unexpected events

Parents or emergency contacts will be notified as quickly as possible whenever an emergency directly affects their child.

7. Are smoke detectors installed?

  • Yes.

Smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire safety equipment are maintained in accordance with applicable safety requirements.

Regular testing and maintenance help ensure these safety devices remain in proper working order.

8. Do you have an evacuation plan?

  • Yes.

An emergency evacuation plan is maintained to help ensure the safe and orderly evacuation of children if necessary.

Children participate in age-appropriate emergency drills as required or recommended so they become familiar with emergency procedures in a calm and reassuring manner.

9. Are visitors allowed?

  • To help maintain a safe environment, access to the daycare is limited.

Parents, guardians, and authorized visitors are always welcome by appointment or as appropriate.

Unexpected visitors or individuals who are not authorized may not be permitted access to the daycare while children are in care.

The safety and security of every child always comes first.

10. How are toys sanitized?

  • Toys and learning materials are cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis and whenever necessary.

Items used by infants and toddlers, as well as frequently handled toys, receive additional attention to help reduce the spread of germs.

Damaged or unsafe toys are removed from use promptly.

11. What happens if another child is sick?

  • Helping prevent the spread of illness is important for everyone.

Children who meet the criteria outlined in our Illness Policy may be required to remain at home or be picked up if they become ill during the day.

Parents may be notified when appropriate if a communicable illness has been identified within the daycare while respecting the privacy of affected families.

12. How often are surfaces cleaned?

Frequently touched surfaces are cleaned and sanitized throughout the day as needed.

    Examples include:

  • Tables
  • Chairs

  • Bathroom surfaces
  • Toys
  • Learning materials
  • High-touch play areas

Additional cleaning is performed whenever necessary to help maintain a healthy environment for all children.
